The Leadership in Entrepreneurship


I.                   Definition of Leadership

Leadership is the process of directing the behavior of other people towards the achievement of certain goals. The direction of this case means to cause another person to act in a certain way or follow a certain direction. Successful entrepreneurs are successful leader, both of which lead some or hundreds employees. An effective leader will always find a way that was better. A leader can be said to be successful if it believes in sustainable growth, increased efficiency and the sustainable success of the company.

These traits vary in each person. The realization that yourself will determine levels of leadership ability will help efforts to make improvements. There is no best way to be a leader. Entrepreneurs are individuals who develop their own leadership style.


II.                Characteristics of a Leader

1.      Confidence
2.      Determined the steel
3.      Motivated
4.      Assertive (not fickle)
5.      Charismatic
6.      Enthusiastic
7.      Have the brave


III.             The Importance of Leadership

The superiority of  the successful entrepreneur is compared with the failed entrepreneurs depend on the dynamics and leadership effectiveness.

Entrepreneurial leadership is a fundamental element in any company. There are three (3) main elements covered in the leadership :

1.      Leadership involves other people. an entrepreneur will be successful if he succeeded in leading their employees or worker who want to work with him to advance the company.
2.      Leadership involves the planting of influence to direct subordinates.  An entrepreneur must also be able to give a good example of how to carry out the work in accordance with the commanded.
3.      Leadership concerns the distribution of power entrepreneurs have the authority to provide the majority of power to an employee or an employee appointed as the leader in a particular section.


 IV.             Leading skills
                        Skills that must be owned by a person in the lead is as follows:

1.      Technical skills
            Ability to perform tasks that are operational or technical.

2.      Human skills
Ability to cooperate with subordinates and build teamwork with humanitarian approach

3.      Conceptual skills
            Ability to draft or think and speak his mind.

V.                The Differences of Power and Leadership
                        Power in relation entrepreneurship are as follows:
      1.      Coercive power (the power to force)
With the force of power, a leader capable of commanding his men effectively.

      2.      Reward power
With numerous awards given to his subordinates, then power can be run and supported by his subordinates.

      3.      Legitimate power
  A leader accepted legal / legitimate so that he has the power
      4.      Expert power
With expertise or specialization, then the rule can be accepted and executed by his subordinates

      5.      Referent power
With reference, then one has the power to govern.


VI.             Key to Leadership Effectiveness:

1.      Leader-member relationship
Relationships relating to: the level of confidence, trust and respect for subordinates.

2.      The task structure
The level  of the work assignments are procedure

3.      Position power
The level of influence a person has a leader with regard to the variable power.


VII.          Types of Leadership
Generally the type of leadership is influenced by a person's talents and the environment, the type of leadership is divided into:
1.      Autocratic Type
a)      Consider the organization as a private property
b)      Identify personal goals with organizational goals
c)      Consider subordinate solely as a tool
d)     Not willing to accept criticism, suggestions and opinions
e)      Depending on the formal power
f)       Moving subordinates by force

2.      Militeristic Type
a)      Demand high discipline of subordinates
b)      Glad to formality
c)      Command system to move subordinates

3.      Paternalistic Type
a)      Assume subordinate are minors
b)      Often be omniscience
c)      Do not provide opportunities for subordinates to take decisions and initiative and creativity

4.      Charismatic Type
a)      Considered to have magical powers
b)      Usually hereditary nobility
c)      Charismatic and capable of being exemplary
d)     Objective

5.      Democratic Type
a)      Glad to receive suggestions, opinions and criticism of subordinates
b)      Give priority to cooperation in achieving the objectives
c)      Make an effort to develop the capacity of the self as a leader.

6.      Liberal Type
a)      There is freedom without control
b)      Leadership does not fully control subordinate
c)      Everything is entrusted to subordinate
d)     Leadership has less responsible
